William 'Bill' Swanson

William Scott (Bill) Swanson, 69 of Northwood died Tuesday February 3rd at his winter home in Mesa Arizona. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Monday February 9th 2009 at First Lutheran Church, Northwood with Pastor Daniel Hart officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City. Visitation will be held Sunday February 8th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, Mason City. Memorials may be given to the Bill Swanson Memorial Fund.
Bill, the son of Art and Blanche Swanson was born October 3rd 1939 in Mason City. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1958, and from North Iowa Area Community College. Bill married his high school sweetheart Sharon Raye Calkins August 28th 1960 at the First Christian Church in Mason City. Bill retired from Alliant Energy after working as a lineman 37 years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Northwood and the Elks Lodge in Albert Lea. Bill was also a volunteer fireman for many years in Northwood.
Bill is survived by his wife Sharon, two daughters; Jody Harrington and husband Troy of Saint Charles IL and Trudy Capitani and husband Dave of Northwood IA. Four grandchildren: Weston and Vaughn Harrington of Saint Charles IL and Spencer and Chandler Capitani of Northwood IA. Two brothers: Larry Swanson and wife Norma of Sun Lakes AZ and Tom Swanson and wife Ann of Nora Springs IA. One sister in-law: Linda Edwards of Bloomington MN as well as several nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
Bill enjoyed spending time with friends in Iowa and Arizona, he also participated in ballroom dancing, attended variety shows, and enjoyed wood working, His other hobbies included; snowmobiling, camping, fishing, traveling, and coin collecting.
