Wayne Allen Vath, 87, of Mason City, died Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at Faith Baptist Church, 1807 S. Kentucky with Pastor Miles Grismore officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge, Iowa at 2:30 PM. Memorials may be directed to the Wayne E. Vath Memorial Fund. Wayne was born January 4, 1926 in Fort Dodge, Iowa the son of George H. and Ella L. (Pacholke) Vath. He graduated from Fort Dodge High School and Fort Dodge Junior College. Wayne enlisted in the US Navy in 1944 and served aboard the USS Cape Esperance C.V.E. 88 Carrier. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Wayne was united in marriage to his beloved Marjorie Ellen Enfield May 20, 1949 in Fort Dodge. The Lord blessed Wayne and Marge with two children, Bonnie Lynn (Vath) Harden and Clifford Wayne Vath. That same year Wayne and Marge moved to Mason City. Wayne worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company as an underwriter for 34 years. He retired in 1982. At the age of 61, Wayne accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior. Wayne was a member of Faith Baptist Church. Throughout his life he enjoyed many activities, all which were embarked upon with much research and planning. Some of these included, camping, traveling, fishing, wood working, wood carving, baking bread, grilling, smoking meats, the cabin up North, and Gulf Shores, Alabama. But by far his favorite activity was having coffee and half a cookie with his wife, family, and friends. He was loved and will be missed. Wayne is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marjorie of Mason City; daughter, Bonnie (Elmer) Harden of Mason City; son, Cliff (Sheryll) Vath of Mason City; 3 grandchildren, Stacey (Jeremy) Ryal of Mason City, Shayne (Jennifer) Skellenger of Oskaloosa, and Holly Vath of Mason City; 4 great grandchildren, J.P., Chloe, Tabitha, and Parker. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and many good friends. In his last days, he was anxious to see his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and many of his friends.
