Walter C. ? Cooney ? Balduf , 81, formerly of Mason City, died Thursday June 15, 2006 at Bethany Manor Nursing Home in Story City, Iowa. Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday June 20, 2006, First Christian Church, Mason City. The Reverend Charles Aurand will officiate. Internment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 9:30 A.M. at First Christian Church, Mason City. Memorials may be directed to First Christian Church. Cooney was born March 22,1925 in Mason City, the son of Conrad Balduf and Evelyn (Buehler ) Balduf. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1943. After high school, he served in the US Navy from June 1943 to February 1946. He married Ardeen Kephart, June 20,1948 in Mason City. Conney was employed in Mason City at Amour and Company and retired from Crescent Electric Supply in 1990. His passion in life was service to his community and he greatly enjoyed the sport of golf. He volunteered at the Community Kitchen and Meals on Wheels. He was an active member in the First Christian Church. He was a lifelong member of the VFW. Cooney was well known for his positive attitude on life and a keen sense of humor. Cooney is survived by three sons, Blane Balduf of Colleyville, Texas, Barry Balduf of Mason City, and Brent Balduf of Nevada; nine grandchildren, Jenny, Elena, Sam, John, Bryan, Brittney, Alecia, Aimee and Emily; and four great-grandchildren. Walter was preceded in death by his Father, Conrad; Mother, Evelyn; and sister Mary Lou.
