Virginia Harris

MARION, IA - Virginia Harris, 73, of Marion, IA, formerly of Mason City, IA, died Saturday, February 5, 2011, at Village Ridge in Marion. Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Rev. Keith Scott officiating. Inurnment will be at the Bohemian National Cemetery in Omaha, NE at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Virginia Harris memorial fund in care of the family. Virginia was born May 1, 1937 in Omaha, NE, the daughter of Lawrence and Marie (Krejci) Rosberg. She graduated from Central High School and earned her BS degree from the University of Nebraska College of Nursing. She married Jess W. Harris on April 25, 1959 in Omaha. Together they moved to Mason City in 1959. Over the years, Virginia worked for the Mason City Junior College, as a Practical Nursing Instructor, Dr. Smileys office, as a nurse, Muscatine Migrant Committee where she was the assistant to the Director of Nursing, and the Migrant Action Committee, where she was a Pediatric Nurse. She retired in 1981. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, TOPS, and a board member for the Rainbow Girls. She also taught Sunday School, taught Spanish to preschoolers, and volunteered for the Red Cross. Virginia enjoyed gardening, sewing, scrap booking, and card making. Virginia is survived by three daughters: Julie Hupp and husband Evan of Ely, IA, Nancy Sullivan and husband Shawn of Blue Springs, MO, and Sally Henderson and husband Phil of Spring, TX; 8 grandchildren; and one brother: Ronald Rosberg of Omaha. She is also survived by one niece, four nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband: Jess Harris on July 2, 2010, and her parents.
