Victor Legler

June 28, 1920 — July 16, 2008

Victor Legler, 88, of 21342 275th Street, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa.  Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 N. Delaware, with Rev. Mark Lavrenz officiating.  Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.  Full military rites will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.  Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue at the church on hour before services.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.  Victor was born June 29, 1920 in Mason City the son of Henry and Margaret (Schuldies) Legler.  He attended school in Mason City.  Victor entered the US Army in May of 1941 and served in WW II until his honorable discharge in November of 1945.  He was awarded the presidential unit citation, good conduct medal and Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with four battle stars.  He married Bette Strand December 30, 1945 at her parents home in Depew, Iowa.  Victor was employed with Jacob E. Decker & Sons for 30 years.  He also farmed on the side.  Victor enjoyed gardening, dancing, working the BBQ Ribs at VFW Post 733 and spending time with family.  He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 733 and Bethlehem Lutheran Church.  Victor also belonged to several neighborhood 500 card clubs. 
 
Victor is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bette of Mason City; daughter, Patty Flatness and grandsons, Christopher Flatness and fiancé Jennifer Hertel and Phillip Flatness and fiancé Megan Engelkes all of Mason City; son, Mark Legler and special friend Vickey Bailey of Fertile and grandson, Michael Legler and great granddaughter, Marissa Legler of Mason City; sister, Rosie Kofoot of Mason City; many nieces and nephews. 
 
Victor was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and 5 brothers.
