Sun City, Florida Verle Bud L. Keegan, 99, of Sun City, formerly longtime resident of Mason City, died Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at hospice in Sun City, FL after a lengthy illness. A funeral mass will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday (July 28, 2011) at St. Josephs Catholic Church, 302 5th St. S.E., with Rev. Kenneth Gehling officiating. Interment will be held in Elmwood - St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday (July 27, 2011) with a scriptural wake service at 6:30 P.M. at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa.
Verle Bud L. Keegan was born March 19, 1912 in Mason City, Iowa, the son of James P. and Nellie Mae (Parson) Keegan. He grew up on an acreage east of town with the well-known red barn. He helped his mother raise chickens and delivered eggs to neighbors at 4 A.M. before walking downtown to school. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1929, Mason City Junior College and Hamilton College of Business. He retired as a superintendent from Armours after forty two years of service. He was a seventy year member of St. Josephs Catholic Church and actively involved in Newmans educational program, the Elks Club, Armour's Retired Men's Club and River City Softball Hall of Fame, inducted in 1976.. His later years were spent enjoying a large garden, attending antique auctions and visiting friends. His ready smile and blue eyes will be missed by his family and all who knew him as a kind and caring gentlemen. God bless and keep you.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Georgoff Keegan in 1998, his mother, Nellie M. and sister, Arlene. Bud is survived by his daughter, Nikki Denzel and husband Rick; granddaughters, Beth Davis and husband David, Kate Denzel and Jennifer Denzel; three great-grandchildren; nieces, Joyce Johnson and husband Bob, Barbara Kruger, and several great nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa.

Cemetery:
Interment will be held in Elmwood - St. Joseph Cemetery.
