Valoyce A. Cooper, 78, of 211 5th Street NE, died Saturday, February 3, 2007 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ with Rev. Patti Aurand officiating. Inurnment will take place in the First Congregational United Church of Christ Columbarium. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Valoyce A. Cooper Memorial Fund. Valoyce was born May 14, 1928 in Mason City the daughter of John and Marguerite (Helm) Nalan. She married Walter F. Cooper February 9, 1950 in Mason City. Valoyce was known by family and friends as Curly, a nickname given to her by her husband, Walter. Through the years, Valoyce enjoyed teaching swim lessons at the YMCA and watching her grandchildren participate in their sporting activities. She was also an avid reader, a member of the Grandmothers Club and enjoyed spending winters in Arizona. Valoyce was a life long member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, having been baptized and married their. Valoyce is survived by her children, Linda Cooper Hall and husband Dennis of Omaha, Nebraska, David Cooper and wife Julie of Mason City, Steven Cooper and wife Diane of Mason City, Lori Cooper Gulick and husband Mike of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; grandchildren, Lindsay Cooper and partner Ryan Ihde, Brett Cooper, Zach Cooper, Nolan Cooper, Kate, Olivia and Jack Gulick; great grandson, Keegan Cooper Ihde; 2 sisters, Merilayne Muth of Mason City and Lucretia Gourley of Goodyear, Arizona; brother, Jerry Nalan of Yuma, Arizona; several nieces and nephews. Valoyce was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Walter F. Cooper; sister, Ruth Webb and brothers, John Stantan Nalan, Clayton and Norvard Nalan.
