Valera M. Allen

January 7, 1915 — February 20, 2010

MASON CITY Valera M. Allen, age 95, of Mason City, died Saturday, February 20, 2010, at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday (February 26, 2010) at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 South Pennsylvania Ave. with the Rev. Keith Scott of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be held in the Rockwell Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Mason City and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials may be directed to the Wesley United Methodist Church, or the Good Shepherd Health Center.

Valera was born January 7, 1915 in Rockwell, Iowa the daughter of Charles E. and Minnie B. (Kalke) Felsman. She attended school in Rockwell and graduated with honors. She was married to Ernest Allen, shortly after graduating from High School. Valera worked for the Mason City School system as a cook for many years. She was a devoted mother and wife. She was a charter member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and the Wesley UMW circle, she also served as past president. She enjoyed playing cards, spending time with her family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Valera was also a member of the Mason City Garden Club, and the Rebekah Lodge.

She is survived by her children, Meredith (Rus) Allen and wife Gen of Dultuh, MN, June Pringnitz and husband Harry of Urbandale, IA; ten grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren, nine great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest; infant daughter Marlys; sons, Jerry and Ed Allen and sisters, Irene and Doris Miller.
