Thorvald L. Sorensen

MASON CITY: Thorvald L. Sorensen, 95, of Mason City, died Monday, June 9, 2014 at the Heritage Care Center. Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Friday, June 13, 2014 at the Riverside Friends Church, 527 N. Kentucky Avenue with Pastor Paul Martin and Pastor Steven Sorensen officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Association. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be directed to the Thorvald Sorensen Memorial Fund. Thorvald was born February 13, 1919 in Clear Lake, Iowa the son of Lars “Chris” and Petra (Bach) Sorensen. Thorvald enlisted in the US Army in October of 1943 and served during WW II. He was honorably discharged in November of 1945. He married Beverly B. Bohl February 14, 1946 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Thorvald owned and operated Sorensen TV Sales & Service for many years in Mason City and Plymouth. He retired in 1990. He also operated Sorensen & Sons Motorcycle Sales and Service. He was a member of Riverside Friends Church, Danish Brotherhood and Lions Club. Thorvald is survived by his children, Donald A. Sorensen of Mason City, Kathleen K. (Jerry) Sonsalla and Rev. Steven L. (LaVonne) Sorensen of Bargersville, Indiana; grandchildren, Tammi, Todd, Tony, Conni, Kris and Yvette; 9 great grandchildren; brother, Hans (Beth) Sorensen of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin; sisters, Edith Skene of Ventura and Helen Bergman of Britt. Thorvald was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Beverly; son, Chris; brothers, Verner and Irvin; sisters, Olga Smeby and Frances Miller; infant great grandson, Bryce Sorensen.
