Sylvia N. Smerdon

Sylvia (Tyrrel) Smerdon, 79, of Mason City, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2012 at the Good Shepherd Health Center. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday (November 2, 2012), at Major Erickson Funeral home, 111 N Pennsylvania Ave, in Mason City with Pastor Jeni Bohls of St. James Lutheran Church officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. Inurnment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com Sylvia, was born on June 2nd, 1933, to Sylvan and Ilo Tyrrel, in Albia, Iowa. She was valedictorian of her graduating class in Albia, and went on to receive her teaching degree at the University of Northern Iowa. It was her teaching career that brought her to Mason City, where she met and married Gene Smerdon. She taught in Mason City for many years, and then went to work for Rugger and Company, CPA's. Sylvia is survived by her Daughter and Son-In-Law, Stacey and David Abrahamson and her granddaughter Lieh Anne Eriksen, and her husband Brian Eriksen; one brother, Sylvan Tyrrel, and his two daughters, Lisa and Angel. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Gene Smerdon.

Cemetery:
Inurnment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the Sylvia Smerdon memorial fund in care of the family.

Visitation:
