MASON CITY ? Steven Dean Zimmer, 60 of Mason City died unexpectedly of heart failure at Mercy Medical Center ? North Iowa on March 7, 2005. Funeral services for Steven will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, March 11, 2005 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue with the Rev. Jo Frahm Watkins of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in the Manly Cemetery. Graveside military rites with be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Visitation will be from 4 ? 8 PM on Thursday at Major Erickson Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to services on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Steven Zimmer Memorial Fund. Steven was born on the 5th of April 1944 to Leo Dean and Verna (Kecker) Zimmer of Northwood. Steve grew up in the towns of Manly and Osage. He joined the United States Navy in 1961, serving honorably during the Vietnam Conflict. Upon his return to Mason City after four years of service, he met and married Barbara Carroll DeKruif and spent the next 40 years of marriage raising their three children and enjoying their seven grandchildren. Steven has worked for several Mason City Companies. For ten years he worked at Schneider Metal as a time study engineer. He also worked for David Manufacturing for over ten years as an assembly manager and for the last ten years for Graham Manufacturing as a quality control engineer. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara Zimmer of Mason City; his three children, Corey (Rose) Zimmer of Bellevue, Nebraska, Anthony (Melissa) Zimmer of Great Falls, Montana, and Angela (Steven) Reinhart of Portland, Texas. Steven is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Joshua, Anthony, Kristy, Jonathan, Emily, Harley, Steven; his sisters, Carol (Duane) Cox of Minnesota, Zoe (Tom) Powers of Kensett and Lynn (Ken) Jorgenson of St. Ansgar. Steven was preceded in death by his father, Leo Zimmer, mother, Verna Zimmer and Clinton Bjorgo, his mother and father-in-law and several aunts and uncles.
