Shirley Irene Bilstad

May 13, 1921 — March 30, 2016

Shirley Irene Moore-Bilstad, 94, of Mason City, died Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at the Heritage Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with the Rev. Ron Stein officiating. Interment will follow in the Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Shirley Bilstad Memorial Fund in care of the family.

Shirley was born May 13, 1921, in Mason City, Iowa to Maude M. Tolson-Moore and Frank B. Moore, the youngest of 10 siblings. Born on the Moore Homestead at 4th and Carolina now known as East Park Sledding Hill. Shirley was united in marriage to Vernon (Tubby) S. Bilstad, March 25, 1952. Vernon passed away January 17, 1965.

Shirley’s employment was at King’s Restaurant, Eureka Hotel, J. J. Newberry Five & Dime, Hanford Hotel, Marshall & Swifts, Jefferson Bus Depot, Shoppers Restaurant, Wagon Wheel, and retired at Tony’s Pizza. In her later years she volunteered at the Senior Citizen Center. Shirley was a baptized member of First Baptist Church, Mason City, Iowa.

Shirley is survived by Wendy King-Edwards, (Dr. Dennis), and family, Anthon, Iowa, Raleign King, Sr., (Carolyn) and family, Mason City, Iowa, Sondra King-Welsh (Larry) and family, Greenwood Village, Colorado, Special friend and Niece, Ethel Magner, Mason City, Iowa, with special mention of Great Great Niece Shelly Gordon Murl, and Great Nieces, Maureen Magner and Maxine Magner whose help Shirley greatly appreciated.

Shirley is also survived by Earl Strait and family, Mason City, Iowa, Sharon Moore-Keller, and family Des Moines, Iowa, Allen Moore (Marilyn), and family, Duluth, MN many great nieces, nephews, great-great nieces and nephews from the Edwards, King, Welsh, Magner, Moore and Strait families and a very special roommate, Penny Cambell.

Passing before her were 9 brothers and sisters, Genie Anderson & twin brother Wade Moore, Ralph Moore, Dorothy Strait & twin sister Doris, Don Moore, Darrell (Jiggs) Moore,, Lola King-Rasmussen & twin brother Lloyd (Art) Moore, her parents, grandparents, all decedents of the Moore and Lien families who helped pioneer Mason City, Marble Rock, Nora Springs and Rockford, Iowa communities.
