Sally Margaret Baker

MASON CITY Sally M. Baker (Mrs. Mick), 65, of Mason City, died Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at the Muse Norris Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Memorial services will be held 1:00 P.M. on Saturday (August 29, 2009) at the First United Methodist Church, 119 South Georgia Ave. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
Sally Margaret Prior daughter of William & Margaret (Davis) Prior, was born Feb 11, 1944 in Ida Grove, Iowa. She attended grade school and high school in LuVerne, Ia. Sally graduated from the Mercy School of Nursing in 1965. Sally was united in marriage to Mick Baker on September 4, 1965. Sally and Mick have lived in Mason City since 1965. To this union two sons were born
Sally began her career in Mason City, nursing in several clinics and both hospitals. In time, she became the bookkeeper for Baker Floral their family business.
Sally had many varied interests nearly all of which were outreach to others. She was a passionate quilter, often quilting for causes such as the Peace House Foundation in Tanzania. She loved to visit quilt stores. Sally was an avid reader and enjoyed sharing a good book with friends. Church activities always included Sally; she served on many committees, provided leadership, participated in Bible studies and was an inspiration to those around her. Sally loved to take photographs, especially in Micks English flower garden. She and Mick made many special trips to a variety of places, and she prided herself on being Micks travel guide. Baking and cooking were a favorite pastime of Sallys and she loved to share her homemade goodies with friends and family. One highlight of her life was participation in a Cathedral tour in England with a California based choir. Sally loved walking and she loved her fellowship with friends.
Sally was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Mason City; a member of the PEO-DZ Chapter, and a leader in the Order of Eastern Star, having served as Grand Esther in 1996. She belonged to the Universal Study Club and to several quilting groups. Sally was a Community Volunteer often working on special projects.
Sally is survived by her husband Mick Baker, sons Andrew (Peggy), and Christopher (Sue), Grandchildren Amanda, Zachary, Nicholas and Isaiah; siblings Marsha (Jim Sloter) and Donovan (Sue) Prior along with several nieces, nephews and cousins all of whom have been very special to Sally.
Sally is preceded in death by her parents, William and Margaret Prior.
Sallys family would especially like to thank the Mercy Cancer Center, the Palliative Care Team, Mercy Medical Center physicians and staff, and Hospice of North Iowa in addition to many dear friends who assisted Sally in her journey.
