Ruth E. Katter, 97, of 302 2nd St. NE, died Thursday (August 5, 2004) at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Funeral services will be 10:30AM Monday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 N. Delaware with Rev. Mark Lavrenz officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church one hour before services. Memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Iowa. Ruth was born June 18, 1907 in Hancock County Iowa the daughter of Herman and Adeline (Greinke) Lemke. She attended rural schools in Hancock County. Ruth married Henry Katter October 22, 1925 at Peace Reformed Church, rural Garner. Her husband died in 1937 leaving her to raise her three girls on the farm. She moved off the farm in 1950 and relocated to rural Clear Lake in 1969. She enjoyed her family and friends, life on the farm, cooking and baking, which she shared with everyone, crocheting, a strong faith in the lord and gardening. Ruth is survived by her 3 daughters, LaVonne Etchen of Mason City, Luella Etchen of Clear Lake, Rachel Pope and husband Richard of Mason City; grandchildren, Cheryl Etchen, Debra Nelson and husband Mark, Laurie Etchen, Teri Larson and husband Mark, Daniel Pope, David Pope and wife Kristie; 4 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild and many friends. Ruth?s parents, husband, son, Henry; 2 brothers, Paul and Otto; 3 sisters, Elizabeth Haes, Martha Heimendinger, Esther Meyer and son-in-law, Merle Etchen preceded her in death.
