Ruth A. (Buchanan) Rosenthal

Ruth A. (Buchanan) Rosenthal, 92, of Mason City, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania with the Pastor Sean McRoberts of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday. Memorials may be directed to the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Ruth A. (Buchanan) Rosenthal, the daughter of Earl and Maggie (Loats) Goodnow, was born November 18, 1920, in Wesley, Iowa. Ruth and her parents moved to Mason City in 1929 where she continued her education and graduated from Mason City High School in 1938. Ruth was employed as first office secretary at Monroe Jr. High. In 1940 she returned to school at the Jr. College. After marriage, Ruth went to work at National Tea Store and later to W. L. Patton Co. where she retired in October 1992. Ruth was united in marriage to Glen “Butch” Buchanan March 15, 1942. Glen passed away October 4, 1983. Ruth married Robert Rosenthal May 4, 1988. Robert preceded her in death December 2, 2001. Ruth was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mason City, Iowa. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and loved watching all sports. She enjoyed working on her many plastic canvas projects which she loved to give as gifts and donate to the various groups at Church. Ruth passed from this life at the age of 91 years on December 3, 2011, at Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa, almost ten years to the day from when her husband Robert passed away. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Paul Buchanan and his wife, Rhonda, of Sun City West, Arizona, her son Loyd Buchanan and his wife, Jane, of Chandler, Arizona, her step-daughter, Lynn Rosenthal May, and her husband, Ron, of Carlsbad, New Mexico, granddaughter, Susan (Buchanan) Koehneke, and her husband, Justin, of Huntington, Vermont, grandson, John Buchanan of Chicago, Illinois, grandson, Matt Buchanan, of San Francisco, California, and grandson, Jason Buchanan, and his wife, Angie, and two great grandchildren, Jackson and Kylee Lynn, of Pleasant Hill, Iowa. Also surviving are a brother, Gerald Goodnow (Francis) of Mason City, Iowa, and a brother, Roger Goodnow (Judy), of Manteca, California. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and one sister, Ervilla (Olson) Goodnow.

Cemetery:
Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Visitation:
