Royal was born on March 12, 1930, in Cresco, IA, the son of Myrtle (Burke) and Royal Wentworth. He was a 1948 graduate of Crestwood Cresco High School. Shortly after graduation, he began his 42-year career with the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. Early in his travels with the railroad, he met the love of his life, Beverly June Konicek, of Belle Plaine, IA. It didn’t take long for them to fall in love and they united in marriage on September 21, 1950. They moved to Mason City where they raised six children. Bud was a hard working husband and father, a trait he instilled upon his six children. Besides his work on the railroad where he would sometimes work double shifts, he also worked as a film projectionist at the local movie theaters. He was a supporter of St. Joseph and Holy Family Churches and raised his children in the Catholic faith by having them all attend parochial school and graduate from Newman High School. After his retirement in 1991, he and Bev moved to Ogden, IA where they lived for several years. They enjoyed attending daily mass and gathering for coffee with their church friends. In 1999, they moved back to Mason City to be closer with family. Bud was proud of his family and beautiful wife, Beverly, and loved spending time with them. Together again back in Mason City, they continued to enjoy attending daily mass at the hospital chapel, going out for lunch, and shopping. They were looking forward to celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary together this fall. Bud loved watching sports, and especially enjoyed attending various sporting events of his children and grandchildren. He was an avid fan of the Iowa State Cyclones and Green Bay Packers. He also enjoyed doing yardwork, landscaping, gardening, and feeding the birds and squirrels. Bud was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the Fraternal Order of Train Dispatchers. Royal (Bud) is survived by his wife, Beverly of Mason City; children: son, Michael (Connie) Wentworth of Mason City; daughter, Melody (Walt) Pearce of Mason City; son, Craig (Kathy) Wentworth of Omaha, NE; daughter-in-law, Maria Wentworth of Mason City; son-in-law, Mike (PJ) Kruger of Clear Lake, IA; and daughter, Traci (Steve) Kieffer of Ogden; 13 grandchildren; Jenni (Mark) Arnold of DeSoto, IA; Lisa (Jeff) Olsen of North Sioux City, SD; Heather Chakraborty of Phoenix, AZ; Macey Vasquez of Chandler, AZ; Bill Wentworth of Omaha; Amy (Rob) Schiffbauer of Chicago, IL; Carrie (Justin) Hoffman of St. Louis, MO; Kristen (Jan) Hahn of Waterloo, IA; Courtney Wentworth of Mason City; Zach (Irene) Kruger of Minneapolis, MN; Nick Kruger of Clear Lake; and Ben and Abby Kieffer of Ogden; 21 great grandchildren; and 3 sisters: Patty Wemette of Byron, GA; Flossie Roerick of Albuquerque, NM; and Theresa (Bernie) Begin of Rochester, MN.
