Ronald E. Hennick

April 4, 1938 — April 7, 2016

Ronald Eugene Hennick, 78, of Floyd, Iowa, died on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Muse Norris Hospice in Mason City, Iowa.

Born April 4, 1938, Ronald graduated from Floyd High School in 1956 and spent a year traveling the country before marrying Sandra Grosland on August 24, 1957. Together, they raised three sons over the next 25 years. Ronnie, as he was known by those close to him in his younger days, first worked as a barber in Mason City while also working a second job at the Northwestern Cement plant. In 1966, he moved his family to Bettendorf to work at the Alcoa Aluminum plant and to begin attending Augustana College at night. Graduating in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, Ron accepted an engineering position that year with Walker Muffler/Tenneco Automotive and moved his family to Racine, WI - on the shore of Lake Michigan. After his boys were grown, Ron accepted one last engineering job in Worcester, Massachusetts. He spent his retirement years with his four grandkids, restoring a 1931 Sears Winona home, tending his garden and arboretum, and catching halibut in Alaska and a musky in Minnesota. A self-trained speed-reader all his life, Ron loved Western and Sci-Fi genres. He enjoyed home restoration, boat-building, trees, training dogs, sportfishing, hunting, and trapping. He was
always busy: outdoors by day, and reading at night.

Ron is preceded in death by his father, WW1 Veteran Willard John Hennick, in 1966, and his beloved Mother, Golda Esther Hennick (nee Wilson), in 2002; four sisters: Wilma Hennick, Wanda Scott, Grace Stiles, and Shirley Erbe; an older brother Eldon, and five brothers-in-law.

Surviving family members include his beloved wife Sandra Lee (nee Grosland) of Floyd, sister Vera Cerwinske, brother Willard (Bud) Hennick, son Mark Eugene Hennick, granddaughter Dr. Terah Michelle Hennick, M.D., grandsons Ian Eugene Hennick and Espen Eugene Hennick; son Douglas Michael Hennick and wife Tammy; son Lee Arthur Hennick, wife Victoria, and grandson Samuel; four sisters-in-law, and two brothers-in-law.
