Roland A. Edgar, 88, of Manly, died Sunday, July 24, 2005 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday at the Bethel United Methodist Church, 503 East South Street, Manly with Rev. Robert Cumings officiating. Interment will be in Rock Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue one hour before services Friday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Roland A. Edgar Memorial Fund. Roland was born September 2, 1916 in Rock Falls, Iowa the son of William D. and Ethel C. (Schnartz) Edgar. He graduated from Rock Falls High School in 1934. Roland married Bonnie Alitz March 16, 1940 in Plymouth. They moved to Manly in 1951. Roland farmed in the area for many years. He also worked for Cerro Gordo County as a maintenance foreman for 17 years. He retired in 1977. Roland was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Roland is survived by his children; Karen Eppens of Mason City, Beverly Rasmuson and husband R. Thomas of Garner, Curtis Edgar of Luxembourg, Patricia Edgar of Mason City, Merri Matteson and husband John of Clear Lake and Jay Edgar and wife Carolyn of Mason City; grandchildren; Amy Laudner, Deborah Cappello, Michael Eppens, Carlene Czarnik, Erin Schmidt, Brian Edgar, Julia Hill and Joel Matteson; 9 great grandchildren. Roland was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Bonnie; grandsons, Douglas and Scott Eppens; brothers, David and Russell Edgar; sisters, Levetta Nicholas and Geraldine Hyde.
