Roger (Chris) Stoltenberg, 80, of Mason City, died Thursday, June 7, 2007 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Pastor Kathy Graves officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue at the church one hour before the service. Memorials may be given to the Roger C. Stoltenberg Memorial Fund. Roger was born March 23, 1927 in the son of Herman and Anna (Hansen) Stoltenberg. Roger was born March 23, 1927, in Owen Township, in Mason City, to Herman and Anna (Hansen) Stoltenberg, the youngest of five children. He served his country at the end of World War II, in Italy. Roger (Chris) married Donna Jean Thoen, of Northwood, IA., on Sept 28th, 1952. He was employed be State Brand Creamery (which became AMPI) for 42 years, retiring in June 1989. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, a life-long member of the VFW, worked with the Boy Scouts for several years and was a member of the Golden Wedding Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was very fortunate to have them close by. Since retirement he traveled to many places, especially enjoying visits to the Washington D.C. area and Colorado to visit his wife?s family. He had the chance to travel to every state, except Hawaii and Alaska. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Donna of Mason City; five children, Randy and wife RoseAnn of Mason City, Gary and fiancé Julia Coronado of Osage, Tim and wife Lee Anne of Manly; twin daughters, Judy Miller and husband Dan of Ventura, Janet Schmitz and husband Doug of Clear Lake; 9 grandchildren, Amy Stoltenberg, Rachel Stoltenberg, John Stoltenberg, Nikki Stoltenberg, Shanna Stoltenberg, Jenna Stoltenberg, Danielle Miller, Devyn Miller and Ryan Schmitz; two step-grandchildren, Kendra (Knopf) Franzen, and Bianca Martinez; brother, Walter ?Boot? Stoltenberg and wife Maxine of Nora Springs; two nieces and many nephews, as well as many other relatives and friends. Roger is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Edward and Virtus and sister, Helen Arndt. He will be remembered for his easy spirit and quiet, gentle nature, which touched so many lives.
