Robert H. Thorpe, 94, formerly of Mason City, died Friday, April 19, 2013 at New Hope Health and Rehabilitation in Centerton, Arkansas. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday, April 26, 2013 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. with Pastor Ed Bard, Chaplain-Hospice of North Iowa officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Robert H. Thorpe memorial fund in care of the family. Robert H. Thorpe was born April 26, 1918 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Eva E. Sloan. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1936. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941 and was honorably discharged in 1945, he served in WWII during the European Conflict, where he served on Patton’s 3rd Army. He was married to Mildred I. Overbeck on May 17, 1946 in Mason City, Iowa. He worked for Armour Co. for thirty-seven years as a butcher until his retirement in 1975. He was a member of the V.F.W., Elks, Moose Lodge, American Bowling Association. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his daughters, Terrie Lea Weiland and husband Larry of Gravette, AR, Jeri Lyn Thorpe and partner Julie Cain of Fayetteville, AR; grandchildren, Kimberly Walters and husband Jeremy, Traci Full and husband Brian, Robyn Sullivan and special friend Jay Juberian; great-grandchildren, Zak, Cody and Brady Walters, Bobby Sullivan II, Gracelyn, Finnegan, and Benjamin Juberian, Hannah and Nathan Full. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred I. Thorpe.
