ROCKWELL: Robert Bob A. Haugen., 67, of Rockwell, died Monday, September 21, 2009, at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. A celebration of his life will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday (September 26, 2009) at the Rockwell United Methodist Church, 303 Monroe St., with the Rev. Jon Scherb officiating. Inurnment will be held in the Rockwell Cemetery. There will be no visitation; upon Bobs wishes he was cremated. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Robert Bob Haugen memorial fund in care of the family Robert Haugen was born November 11, 1941 in Mason City, the son of Harold and Wilma (Foster) Haugen. He attended elementary school at Madison in Mason City, and graduated from Rockwell High School in 1959. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country for a short time. After his return from the service, he worked in the area at various places as a diesel mechanic. One of his most memorable jobs was when he worked on the Trans Alaska Pipeline from 1975-77 in Fairbanks, AK. He then lived in Colorado for a short period of time, before moving back to the area in the early 1980s. He was married to C. Kay Hejna on July 30, 1988 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. He developed emphysema in 1990 and received a lung transplant on September 20, 2005, (4 years and 1 day from the date of his death). Bob was an advocate for the importance of being an organ donor, and also the dangers of smoking. He also was very proud of his thirty plus year membership of AA. Bob enjoyed traveling, making ceramics, shooting pistols, watching T.V., and visiting casinos and dog tracks. He loved all automobiles and even restored a few through the years. He also enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Kay Haugen; step-son, Scott Hejna and wife Becky; siblings, Wanda Neve and husband Deets, Gary Haugen and wife Mary Ellen, Linda Watt, Larry Haugen and wife Laurie; special friend, Bob Sturges; step-grandchild, Christopher Strobel; honorary grandchildren, Chelsie and Halie Bryant and Stephanie Rondquist; special daughter, JoAnne McNabb and Larry Cameron; honorary children, Carmen and Tom Bryant; and many nieces, nephews and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
