MASON CITY: Richard L. Brookhart, age 81, of Mason City, died Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Mason City. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Faith Baptist Church, 1807 South Kentucky Avenue, Mason City with Pastor Miles Grismore officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Ave. Memorials preferred to the Mercy Ambassadors as Richard spent over 8,500 hours at Mercy Hospital volunteering his time or to the Precious Moments Chapel Foundation, where he found great comfort and many loving friends from around the world. Interment will be at Elmwood – St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City. Richard was born February 21, 1933 at home in Neeper, MO to Victor and Ina (Collins) Brookhart. He graduated from Hannibal LaGrange College in 1953, and then received his masters from Northeast Missouri State Teacher’s College. After college he spent two years in the United States Army. He was married to Joleen Blew on June 10, 1961 in Bloomfield, IA. He taught typing and business courses in Davis County School District before teaching in Mason City for 33 years, most of those years at Monroe Junior High School. Richard accepted Christ as his savior at a young age and spent his years serving through singing, teaching Sunday school, building and missionary committees, and deacon. He received several awards for his many different volunteer services in the community. He also enjoyed collecting Precious Moments figurines and traveling with his son, Rob. Richard is survived by his son, Rob Brookhart, West Des Moines, IA; his sister, Eva Jean White, Waukee, IA; two brothers: Herbert (Patti) Brookhart, Memphis, MO; Jerry (Cherilyn) Brookhart, Burlington, IA; sisters-in-law: Marlene (Forest) Pilcher of Bloomfield, IA; Wilma Gay of Bloomfield, IA; Frances Blew, Ottumwa, IA; brother-in-law, Gail Swaim of Ottumwa, IA; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, and his wife, Joleen on July 1, 1997.

Cemetery:
Interment will be at Elmwood – St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.
