Mason City Rachael P. Gildner, age 94, of Mason City, died Sunday (Sept. 12, 2010) at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Private graveside services for Rachael will be held at a later date in Park Cemetery in Nora Springs, IA, upon her wishes she was cremated. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa. Rachael P. Gildner was born June 1, 1916 in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Dr. John G. and Mary (Main) Clapsaddle of Burt, Iowa. She grew up in Burt, IA and graduated High School and then attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids and the University of Iowa where she graduated with a degree in Social Administration. She was employed by the Marion County Relief as a Social Worker in Knoxville, IA, until she was married to William F. (Bill) Gildner on July 12, 1939 in Burt, IA. After WWII the Gildner family moved to Mason City. Rachael was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she participated in many activities of the church. She volunteered at the Garfield school, Cub and Girl Scouts, YMCA, and was a Red Cross Volunteer for over 25 years. She was a member of the PEO Chapter GN, the OT Study Club, and the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Rachael is survived by her children, John Gildner and wife Nancy of Marshalltown, IA, Douglas Gildner and wife Gretchen of Minneapolis, MN, Barbara Gildner of Marina Del Rey, CA; two grandchildren, Jennifer Gildner-Blinn and husband Read of Keene, New Hampshire, Adam Gildner and wife Margaret of St. Louis Park, MN; two great-grandchildren, Lake Gildner-Blinn and William John Gildner. Rachael was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William (Bill) F. Gildner; brother, Dr. Dean Clapsaddle; and grandson, Andrew Gildner.
