MASON CITY: Phyllis J. Sherer, 84, of Mason City, died Friday, August 28, 2015 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 2502 S. Jefferson Avenue with Pastor Matthew Muters officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be directed the Phyllis Sherer Memorial Fund.

Phyllis was born October 2, 1930 in Mason City the daughter of Raymond and Hazel (Curtis) Buffington. She was a graduate of Mason City High School. Phyllis married Clifford Overbeck February 6, 1949 in Mason City and to this union three children were born Sandy, Cindy and Darrell. Clifford preceded her in death on April 28, 1971. She later married Howard Sherer February 14, 1974. Phyllis worked as a purchasing agent for Risto Manufacturing Company for 25 years. She was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. Earlier in life she enjoyed camping with the WigWam-N-Wagon campers and also NCHA Camping Association, fishing trips to Bay City, WI. and Rush lake, MN., and traveling with family. Phyllis enjoyed hosting 500 card club at her home and later playing cards at Kentucky Ridge and the IOOF Home. She was an avid reader and more recently enjoyed them via audio.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Sandy Huntley-Loup (Charles) of Mason City, Cindy (David) Borcherding of Northwood and Darrell (Kim) Overbeck of Mason City; step-children, Michael (Christie Hartsock) Sherer of Council Bluffs, Larry (Lynette) Sherer of New Haven, Minnesota and Linda (Bob) Ward of Mason City; sisters, Ramona McCourt of Plymouth, and Marlys (Bob) Benson of Rockwell; brother Marlyn (Elma) Buffington of Arlington, VA.; half-sisters, Wendy Hill and Jennifer Buffington of California; Aunt Kathryn Lindsay of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Brian (Sara) Huntley, Mark Huntley, Matthew (Brittany) Borcherding, Dana Borcherding, Erik (Ami) Overbeck, Benjamin Overbeck and Adam Overbeck; great grandchildren, Twyla Shellhart, Ethan and Ayden Huntley, Hana and Noah Overbeck, Alexa Conrad and Aubrey Borcherding; 11 step grandchildren; 18 step great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; husband Clifford Overbeck; husband Howard Sherer; son-in-law James P. Huntley; sister Norma Schmidt; and brother and sister-in-laws.
