Philip David Meyer, 38 of Mason City, died Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday (February 20, 2006) at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148-4th St. S.E. with Pastor Paul C. Nelson officiating. Interment will be at 1:00 PM in the Rockwell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue one hour before the service Monday at the church. Memorials may be directed to Opportunity Village and NIVAC. Phil was born October 10, 1967 in Mason City, Iowa the son of David P. and Sharon (Hathaway) Meyer. Philip was baptized and reaffirmed his faith through confirmation at St. James Lutheran Church in Mason City. He attended the Mason City Schools in the special education classes and graduated with the class of 1985. Phil worked at NIVAC performing a variety of different jobs. He worked at Target for four years. The last and most important job to Phil in his life, was his job at HyVee West. He was the ?Bagger? there and enjoyed talking to everyone, it was hard to enter the store without Phil seeing you and starting up a conversation. He was so friendly and had such a good sense of humor his parents often received compliments from people who ran into Phil. Phil always greeted you with a hearty hand shake. Phil?s greatest passion was his ?family.? He enjoyed family vacations, get-togethers, game-playing, and just spending time sitting and visiting. Phil also enjoyed spending time with his close friends being ?out and about.? Philip is survived by his parents; David and Sharon Meyer of Mason City; sisters, Kimberly Platts of Hoffman Estates, IL, Susan Meyer of Clear Lake; nieces, Kari Platts of Ames, IA, Melissa Piper of Clear Lake, nephew, Michael Piper of Clear Lake; aunts, uncles, great-aunts, great-uncles; cousins; and close friends, Bobby Kelley, Val Mujica and Phil Fountas. Philip was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Vern and Eva Hathaway and paternal grandparents, Paul and Marie Meyer.
