Opal Freeman, 81, of Mason City, died Thursday, December 21, 2006 at the Good Shepherd Health Center. A funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Saturday (December 23, 2006) at Church of Christ, 710 N. Kentucky, with the Rev. Alan Sheldon officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 ? 6 PM Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. and one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Church of Christ. Opal was born February 14, 1925 in Green Castle, MO, the daughter of John I. and Mary (Norris) Walters. She attended rural schools near Green Castle. Opal was united in marriage to Paul R. Freeman on January 15, 1942 in Eldora, IA. They made their home in Mason City where they raised three children. She enjoyed cooking for others, church, reading, gardening, crossword puzzles and singing. She greatly enjoyed the companionship of her pets. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Church of Christ in Mason City and Ladies Church Group. She was on the board of RSVP for four years, cooked and served for the Community Kitchen, was formerly involved in the PTA, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and was a den mother for the Cub Scouts. She is survived by her children, Jerry Freeman and wife Sandra of Minneapolis, MN, Scott Freeman and wife Janet of Urbandale, IA and Paula Harms of Bolingbrook, IL; six grandchildren: Rachel, Aaron, Tony, Brian, Jessica, and Jacob; three great-grandchildren: Daniel, Elizabeth, and Taylor; and one sister, Ruby Green and husband Wendell ?Pat? of Mason City. Opal was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul in 1988; one grandson, Todd Harms; six brothers and four sisters.
