Mervin L. Thompson, 77, of 15204 Linden Street, died Sunday (June 22, 2003) at home. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 4th St. SE, with Rev. Scott Duffus officiating. Interment will be 10:00 AM Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue. The casket will be closed. Memorials may be given to the Mervin L. Thompson Memorial Fund. Mervin was born April 21, 1926 in Britt, Iowa the son of Huron S. and Edna (Dallman) Thompson. He was baptized May 9, 1926 at First Lutheran Church in Britt and confirmed March 17, 1940 at St. James Lutheran Church in Mason City. He attended schools in Mason City then served in the US Navy aboard the USS Idaho during WW II. Mervin married Irene Swift in 1947. He was employed by Marshall and Swift Laundry for 25 years and also owned and operated a furniture stripping business for many years. Mervin was a member of St. James Lutheran Church for 67 years. He is survived by his wife; Irene M. Thompson of Clear Lake, Children; Bill Thompson and wife Wendy of Klemme, Terry Thompson and wife Teala of Davenport, Suanne Ferguson of Tucson, AZ, Judy Whalen and husband Jay of Bigelow, MN, Kay and fiancé Mark Stitz of Kanawha, Grandchildren; Michael Thompson and wife Celina, Matthew Thompson, Jason Thompson and wife Jennifer, Jeremy Thompson and wife Stacie, Kimberly Vore and husband Kevin, Adrienne Ashland and Jerry Aldrich, Kelsie Ashland, Joshua Ashland, Daniela Thompson, Colin Ferguson, Claire Ferguson, Eric Whalen, Sara Anderson and husband Jerry, Ron Abele, Kari Abele, Great Grandchildren; Dillon, Brandon, Skyla, Alexandria, Daniel, Taylor, Spencer, Sean, Clayton, Courtney, Carter, Jazlyn, Jayson, Alex, Sammie Jo and Skylar, Sisters; Deloris Schroeder and husband Ernie of Apache Junction, AZ, Darlene Wade and husband Rod of Mason City, Nephews; Jon, Jim and Jeff Wade, Steve Schroeder. Mervin was preceded in death by his parents and nephew; Michael Schroeder.
