Maurice E. Mentink

Maurice E. Mentink, 77, of 302 2nd St. NE, died Wednesday (January 20, 2004) at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Rev. Ken Hatland officiating. Following cremation, inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue one hour before services Saturday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Maurice E. Mentink Memorial Fund. Maurice was born December 14, 1926 in rural Mason City the son of Louis and Jenny (Meehan) Mentink. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1946. Maurice married Lyla K. Brunsvold October 2, 1955 in rural Kensett. Maurice worked as a clerk for Jacob E. Decker and Sons for 38 years retiring in 1983. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a boy scout leader, was active in democratic politics, NIACC and Mason City High School Athletics and their booster clubs, little league baseball and was a member of the River City Softball Hall of Fame. The family would like to thank the staff at Good Shepherd Health Center for the care Maurice received. Maurice is survived by his wife, Lyla Mentink of Mason City; son, Michael Mentink and wife Kari of Mason City; daughter, Maureen Harrer of Mason City; grandchildren, Blake and Camre Harrer, Turner and McKenna Mentink; sister, Arlys Kimball of Mason City; brother, John Mentink and wife Mary of Mason City; sister, Margaret Johnson and husband Dean of Chicago, IL; sister, Ragna Flatness and husband Ronnie of Mason City; brother, Joe Mentink and wife Pat of Indianapolis, IN; brother-in-law, Paul Fransen and wife Mary of Des Moines; sister-in-law Harriet Petcoff of Mason City; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Fred and Nina Carson of Mason City. Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, sister; Judy Fransen and brother-in-law; Vern ?Mug? Kimball.
