Carrollton, TX Mary E. Harness, 97 of Carrollton, TX formerly of Mason City passed away Friday, March 13, 2009 at her home. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday (March 20, 2009) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. with the Rev. Steve Hansen of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5:00 7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Mary Harness memorial fund in care of the family.
Mary was born June 14, 1911 in Cantril, Iowa the daughter of Elmer and Anna (Baird) Jones.
She was married to Everett Harness on December 21, 1934 in Carthage, IL. Mary worked as a retail clerk at the Ben Franklin Store in Mason City for many years. Mary loved crocheting and she was known for making baby caps for Mercy Hospitals and also lap robes for the residents in the Veterans Hospital in Marshalltown, IA. She enjoyed going on shopping trips with her friend, Martha. She loved her family and she enjoyed the times she spent with them. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Mary was survived by her daughter, Sherry Lynch and husband, John of Carrollton, TX; grandchildren, Michelle Lynch and husband Paul Fika of Highland Village, TX, Tabitha Shannon Harness-Simmons and husband James F. Simmons of IL, Anthony Harness of IL, and Mica Harness-Morrison of IL; great-grandchildren, David Fika, Nathaniel Fika, and Elex Mundy, Ashley Harness-Simmons, Hunter Simmons, Amber Simmons and Heather Simmons; sister, Mabel Haunches of Mason City; and godson, Wayne Ebbers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Everett in 1996; son Willis Harness and wife Sandra; grandson, Michael Lynch; sister, Marie Bailey; brother, Perry Jones.
