Mary Alice Papouchis

MASON CITY Mary Alice Papouchis, 64, of Mason City, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2011, at her home, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with Pastor Ed Bard, Hospice of North Iowa Chaplain, officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be from 10:00 AM to the time of the service on Tuesday. Memorials may be given to the Mary A. Papouchis Memorial Fund in care of the family.

Mary was born March 31, 1947, the daughter of Henry and Alfrieda (Pagel) Crooks. She grew up in the Northwood-Kensett area and attended high school in Northwood. She moved to Mason City shortly after graduation before earning a degree from Hamilton College. She was fortunate to have given birth to two children from her first marriage to James Papouchis: Teresa King and Anthony Papouchis, both of Mason City. She worked for Woodharbor Doors and Cabinetry for 13 years. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, various crafts, gardening, as well as spending time with her grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her children, Teresa (Michael) King, Anthony (Jen) Papouchis; 6 grandchildren; her mother, Alfrieda (Pagel) Crooks; her 5 loving sisters and 2 brothers; former spouse and constant companion, Gene Casterton.

She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Crooks; sister, Rosalie Enfield.

Visitation:
A gathering of family and friends will be from 10:00 AM to the time of the service on Tuesday.
