Mason City, Iowa Marvin Oscar Piippo, age 86, of Mason City, died Thursday, January 14, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., on, Monday, January 18, 2010, at Our Saviours Lutheran Church, 2502 South Jefferson Avenue, with Rev. Emily Horrell officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be directed to the Marvin O. Piippo memorial fund in care of the family.

Marvin was born October 26, 1923 in New York Mills, MN, the son of Ocsar and Edla (Matti) Piippo. He attended Ottertall Country School through 8th grade. On July 4, 1939, Marvin moved to Mason City. He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 1951. On September 25, 1960, he was united in marriage to Carol Johnson in Mason City. Over the years, he worked as a Turbine Operator for American Crystal Sugar, and also commercial and residential construction until his retirement in 1985. Marvin was a member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the VFW. He enjoyed gardening (vegetables and flowers), camping, and working outside.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 49 years: Carol Piippo of Mason City; three sons: DeLon Piippo of Mason City, Darius Piippo of Mason City, Devin Piippo and wife Sandra of Portland, IA; two grandsons, Tyler and Trenton Piippo; two granddaughters, Destiny and Mariah Piippo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Walter, Russell, Arnold, and Einar Piippo; three sisters: Gertrude, Inez, and Agnes.
