Martha M. Friend

Mason City Martha M. Friend, 94, of Mason City, died Saturday, July 31, 2010, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 North Delaware Avenue, with Rev. Mark Lavrenz officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Good Shepherd Health Center, or Hospice of North Iowa.

Martha was born on April 16, 1916, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Lena (Jachstein) Tobsing. She attended schools in Mason City. She married Homer W. Friend on July 20, 1935, in Mason City. Martha was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She enjoyed her family, cooking, baking bread, biscuits, or homemade noodles, and crewel embroidery. While living at the Meadows in Mason City, she always looked forward to going to her card group. Martha also enjoyed all the activities held by Good Shepherd and all the many friends she made during her 3 year stay there. She will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew her.

Martha is survived by her daughter, Dorothy (Merle) Duckert of Mason City; two sons, Robert (Beverly) Friend of Charles City, Iowa, Gary W. Friend of Lawson, MO; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one special niece, Marilyn Schmidt.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Homer; three sisters, Lottie Barker, Clara Tuthill, and Marie George; two great grandchildren.

Memorials:
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Good Shepherd Health Center, or Hospice of North Iowa.

Cemetery:
Burial will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery.
