Marlin Dean Hanson, 52, of Mason City, died Saturday, October 8, 2011. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 13, 2011, at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 4th Street S.E., with Pastor Jeni Bohls and Pastor Paul Nelson officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 PM 7:00 PM on Wednesday (October 12, 2011) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Aliza Estle and Pierce Saewert College Fund, in care of Donna Hanson, 31 23rd Street SW, Mason City, IA 50401, Mason City Fire Department, 350 5th Street Southwest, Mason City, or Affordables Thrift Store, 315 N. Delaware Avenue. Marlin was born January 4, 1959, in Mason City, the son of Alwood and Nadene (Anderson) Hanson. He attended school in Mason City. On May 3, 1986, Marlin married Donna Lasley at the Zion Lutheran Church in Monticello, IA. Marlin was a Jack Of All Trades, who worked many jobs over the years, including most recently Huffman Coaches (driving charter buses) and Five Star Co-Op (driving semi-tractor/trailer). He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church. Marlin enjoyed driving truck, camping, tinkering on cars and building model cars, construction, watching Fix It shows on HGTV & the DIY Network, and spending time outdoors loving the fresh air, scenery, and being free. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family especially his children and grandchildren. He was self-taught in many things, including the computer. He had a great love for photography & videography, and loved capturing special family moments & the beautiful outdoors. Marlin is survived by his wife of 25 years: Donna Hanson of Mason City; his children: Joshua Hanson of Mason City, Nicole Hanson of Boise, Idaho, Heidi Estle and husband James of Plover, WI, and Spencer Hanson and significant other, Jaque Saewert of Mason City; 2 grandchildren: Aliza Smoochie Estle and Pierce Saewert; mother and father-in-law: Geroge and Bonnie Tobiason of Monticello; brother-in-law: David Lasley and wife Janeece of Monticello; and sister-in-law: Kalinda Stadtmueller and husband Al of Monticello. He is also survived by his Beagle dog Copper, and several extended family members cousins, uncles, and aunts, including special aunts: Norma Law and Verna Anderson. He was preceded in death by his father, and special uncle: Bud Anderson. Other survivors include: his mother; 3 brothers: Rodney, Kevin, & Timothy Hanson and their families; and 1 sister: Cynthia Hanson.
