Marcella J. Picken

January 20, 1920 — July 11, 2008

MASON CITY Marcella J. Picken, 88, of Mason City, died Friday, July 11, 2008, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Rev. Kathy Graves officiating.  Visitation will be from 5:00 PM 7:00 PM on Monday, July 14, 2008 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue.  Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church.
Marcella was born January 20, 1920 in Kensett, Iowa the daughter of Albert and Amanda (Roslien) Holstad.  She married Lt. Donald James Picken on May 13, 1945 at Elk Creek Lutheran Church in Kensett.   After completing her education, she worked as a Color Artist for Russell Studio in Mason City for 15 years.  She did clerical work at Bergos for 15 years and also worked for 3 years at Davids Jewelry.  Her interests were her family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She especially enjoyed baking Norwegian food and pastries for her family.  She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. 
She is survived by her husband: Don Picken of Mason City; her children: Arlyn Picken and wife Connie of Winona, MN, Sandra Calhoun and husband Richard of Colorado Springs, CO. and Dave Picken and wife Chris of Reunion, CO;  6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 2 brothers:  Arnold Holstad of Mason City and Harlan Holstad of Hampton; 2 sisters:  Lorette Kroneman of Mason City and Orla Nelson of Forest City; 2 brothers-in-law:  Robert Picken of Floyd, IA and Al Albertus of Coralville, IA;  1 sister-in-law:  Eldora Holstad of Clear Lake.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 brother:  Sophus Holstad; 3 sisters:  Berniece Rodemeyer, Lorraine Albertus and Alva Reetz.
