Lucille Sutcliffe, 95, of Mason City, died Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at the IOOF Home in Mason City. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday (August 18, 2009) at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania, with Pastor Steve Hansen officiating. Private family interment services will be held at Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery prior to the memorial service. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Wesley United Methodist Church or Hospice of North Iowa.
Fannie Lucille Sutcliffe was born at the family farm home on March 29, 1914, the daughter of Irwin C. and Fannie (Roberts) Johnson. She resided in Mason Township all her life. She was a graduate of Mason City High School and Iowa State Teachers College (UNI), in Cedar Falls. She taught in Central Heights School, a rural school in Mason Township, during the depression years.
Lucille married Charles J. W. Sutcliffe on November 27, 1935, in Mason City. The couple farmed south of Mason City until retiring in 1975. After Charles death on February 12, 1992, she moved to the Manor in Mason City.
She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Farm Bureau was important to her and she held several offices in the local Farm Bureau Womens Organization. She was a life-time member of the Pleasant Ridge Club. Lucille enjoyed her family, playing 500 and bridge, and traveling.
Lucille is survived by her two sons, Gary C. (Donna) and Jack I. (Rosie) Sutcliffe; five grandchildren, Lyndon Sutcliffe and special friend Susan, Kevin (Brenda) Sutcliffe, Dawn (Greg) Scott, Diane Sutcliffe, and Oscar (Heather) Sutcliffe; six great grandchildren, Kaitlin and Keith Sutcliffe, Zachary and Allison Scott, and Blair and Ella Sutcliffe; one brother, Robert I. (Mildred) Johnson; and two nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
