Lucille Elizabeth Mae Brass Nelson, 89, of Rockwell, IA, died Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at her home surrounded by her loving family. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 305 Elm Street East, Rockwell, with Rev. Rodney Allers officiating. Interment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at the Sacred Heart Catholic School in Rockwell, with a Scriptural wake service at 6:30 PM. Memorials may be directed to the Elizabeth Brass Nelson memorial fund in care of the family. Lucille Mae Lamb was born June 28, 1924, in Abbott, IA, the daughter of Arthur and Elizabeth (Bodecker) Lamb. She attended country school in rural Geneva, IA. She was united in marriage to John Lyle Brass on February 17, 1942, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Iowa Falls, IA, and to this union 8 children were born. John died at the age of 45. In order to provide for her family, she worked several jobs over the years including driving a sugar beet truck, canning factory work in Ackley, IA, waitressing, The Coca Cola Bottling Company and in Clear Lake at E F Johnsons through Unisys until her retirement in 1991. She met her 2nd husband, Harold Nelson, when they both worked at The Coca Cola Bottling Company. They were married on April 25, 1970, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockwell. Elizabeth enjoyed spending time with her family – especially all her grandchildren. She also enjoyed meeting her friends for coffee, cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes and supporting her grandchildren at their ball games, especially baseball games. Elizabeth had a strong faith and was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she was active in Church Guild. She was also a member of the Helping Hands Club. Elizabeth AKA: Liz, Lizzy, Betty, Lucy, Mom and Grandma, was a hard worker who always put others first. She was set in her ways and not afraid to speak her mind. She taught her children the importance of persistence, perseverance and to never give up. Elizabeth is survived by 8 children: Jean Rood of Mason City, Anthony (LaVina) Brass of Mason City, Mike (Mickey) Brass of Rudd, IA, Marjorie (Frank) Steines of Des Moines, IA, Don (Opal) Brass of Rockwell, Richard (Kim) Brass of Thompson, IA, Cindy (Steve) Meyer of Mason City, and Patty Brass of Rockwell; one step son: Ronald (Dale) Nelson of Alabama; 24 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; and 13 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her 1st husband in 1963; her 2nd husband in 2001; son-in-law: Jerrold Rood; and grandson: Jeffrey Suby Brass.

Cemetery:
Interment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the Elizabeth Brass Nelson memorial fund in care of the family.

Visitation:
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at the Sacred Heart Catholic School in Rockwell, with a Scriptural wake service at 6:30 PM.

Service:
