MASON CITY Louis V. Rice Jr., 88, of Mason City, died Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at the IOOF Home. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday November 19 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Avenue. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday, November 20, 2009 at Major Erickson Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Hansen, Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood, Iowa. Memorials may be donated to the Louis V. Rice Memorial Fund. Louis was born September 13, 1921 in Mason City. He was the son of Louis V. Rice Sr. and Clara Ziska Rice. He graduated from Mason City High School. Louis served his country with the US Army during WW II. He married Marjorie Schmidt on November 19, 1943 in Mason City. Louis retired in 1974 from the Mason City Fire Department as Captain. Through those years he also delivered freight for local trucking companies. Later on, he worked for Baker Floral delivering flowers for several years. In his spare time, he enjoyed keeping up with the local sports.
Louis is survived by 2 daughters, Patricia (James) Ueker of Mason City and Nancy (Kenneth) Christensen of Mason City; grandchildren, Traci Jo (Cory) Redeker of Manly, Ryan Ueker and special friend Anna Ebert of Phoenix, Arizona, Lisa (Jacob) McCoy of West Des Moines, and Libby Christensen of Colorado Springs, Colorado; great grandchildren, Jace and Brooke Kamish and William McCoy. Louis is also survived by his special friend, Barb Gasaway of Mason City.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marjorie; son in infancy, Dennis; son, Michael; and sister, Norma Wagner.
