Leonard “Lee” C. Olson, 89, of Mason City, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 6, 2012 after a battle with cancer. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 11, 2012, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 329 East State St., with Pastor Sid Bohls officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Wednesday (October 10, 2012) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery will Military Honors performed by the Mason City Veterans Association. Memorials may be sent to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Iowa. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com Lee was born September 13, 1923 in Howard County, IA, he was the son of Pete and Emma (Jackson) Olson. He attended Mason City Schools. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943 and was honorably discharged as an Electrician Mate 3rd Class in 1945. He was married to Betty J. Olson on December 22, 1945 in Mason City, Iowa. He was employed at Borden’s Ice Cream for 34 years until his retirement. He then worked for Mercy Hospital for 10 years and then worked at the V.F.W. for four years. Lee enjoyed golfing, bowling, and liked watching all sports. Lee was a generous man and was always willing to help anyone in need. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #733 and was a member of the Mason City Veterans Honor Guard for many years and was very proud of this. He was a long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Lee is survived by his children, Terry Olson and wife Donna of Corona, CA and Julie Thovson and husband Gary of Altoona, IA; grandchildren, Jon Thovson and significant other Tena Romdall, James Thorson and wife Jayne, Tanya Simons and husband Joe, Dawn Corona and husband Paul, Sara Greer and husband Jim, Tomm Olson and wife Carrie; great-grandchildren, Braden, Kalen, Anthony, Tate and Rylee, Reilly, RaeLynn, Brian, Brenden, Dakota, Shepard and Theodore; special friend, Karen Cornick of Mason City. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty in 1995; six sisters; one brother; and special nephew, Jim Kantaris.

Cemetery:
Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery will Military Honors performed by the Mason City Veterans Association.

Memorials may be sent to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Iowa.
