Leo Quinones

June 16, 1929 — April 21, 2016

Leo Quinones, 86, Hampton, IA and formerly of Mason City, IA, passed on Thursday, April 21, 2016, at the Rehab Center of Hampton. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Pastor Darren Chipp of Neighborhood Bible Church in Hampton officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Clear Lake Honor Guard Memorial Association. Memorials may be directed to the Leo Quinones memorial fund in care of the family.

Leo was born June 16, 1929, in Frost, MN, the son of John and Victoria (Guiterez) Quinones. He attended school in Mason City. In 1947, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1953. Leo married Carol Gaswint in Mason City. The couple later divorces but remained friends. Leo worked for Cantex Brick and Tile for many years before the business closed. He then worked for Andrews Prestressed Concrete until his retirement. Leo enjoyed spending time with his family – especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, watching TV, socializing, and taking care of his dogs: “Jeffery 1”, Jeffery 2”, “Brandy” and “Pee Wee”. Leo was a member of the Clear Lake VFW and Disabled American Veterans.

Leo is survived by his son: Lee Quinones and wife Tracy of Hampton; 2 step-daughters: Lynn Heneman and husband Dale of Mason City and Jan Brunstein of Iowa City, IA; 3 grandchildren: Andrew Quinones (Gaby) of Fort Dodge, IA, Emily Quinones of Hampton and Ramsay Stepleton of Mason City; 2 sisters: Mary and husband Wayne and Malia; and 1 brother: Pat.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and 6 siblings: Billy Quinones, Johnny Quinones, Raymond Quinones, Beeda Lidholm, Gloria Baker and Juanita Quinones.
