Lawrence “Larry” Allan Huegli, 74, of Clear Lake, IA, and Tucson, AZ, and formerly of Mason City, IA, died Thursday, May 21, 2015, at his home in Clear Lake. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM on Thursday, May 28, 2015, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Pastor Ed Bard, Chaplain – Hospice of North Iowa officiating. Interment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at Major Erickson Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2616 Orchard Dr, Cedar Falls, IA 50613 or Hospice of North Iowa, 232 2nd St SE, Mason City, IA 50401. Larry was born June 20, 1940, in West Union, IA, the son of Elmer and Mary (McClure) Huegli. He moved to Waterloo, IA at age 7 and graduated from West High School, Waterloo and then the Radio Broadcasting School of Brown College in Minneapolis, MN. He enjoyed a long career in Radio and TV Broadcasting as a News Announcer and News Director working in Waterloo and Clinton, IA; Las Vegas, NV; Owatonna, MN; Tucson, AZ and at KGLO and KIMT in Mason City. In 1983, Larry was presented with the Jack Shelley Award which is the highest honor given by the Iowa Broadcast News Association. In 1987, he earned the HR Gross Award from United Press International for Outstanding Service to Broadcast Journalism. In addition to his broadcasting achievements, Larry was a longtime member of Toastmasters International, both in Clinton and Mason City. He won over 50 awards and trophies for his Toastmaster leadership and his speeches. Larry also was a popular After Dinner Speaker for many businesses and organizations using humor to motivate his audiences. In 1960, Larry married Janet Schwake in Waterloo and they raised two sons and two daughters. In 1993, Larry married Linda Brown of Mason City and two years later they moved to Tucson. After retirement they began to return to Clear Lake for the summers. Larry is survived by his wife: Linda Huegli of Clear Lake and Tucson; 2 sons: Allan Huegli of Mason City and Scott (Cyndi) Huegli of Mason City; 1 daughter: Tracey (Jeremy) Theile of Alexandria, MN; son in law: Jamie Moffett of Clear Lake; 4 step-sons: Steve (Kathy) Brown of Clear Lake, Daniel (Marcia) Brown of Iowa City, IA, Michael Brown of Mason City, and Christopher (Krisann) Brown of Moline, IL; 1 step daughter: Donna Brown (fiancé Luke Meyer) of Mason City; 16 grandchildren and step grandchildren; 17 great and step great grandchildren; 1 brother: Terry Huegli of Waterloo; 1 step brother: Gary (Bonnie) Hinrichs of Glendale, AZ, and former wife: Janet (Bob) Meyer of Mason City. He was preceded in death by his parents; step mother: Sadie Huegli; and 1 daughter: Dawn Moffett.
