Laura B. Helm

July 3, 1916 — May 8, 2008

Plymouth -Laura B. Helm, 91, of Mason City, formerly of Plymouth died Thursday, May 8, 2008 at the Good Shepherd Health Center.  Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday (May 10, 2008) at the Plymouth United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Turner officiating.  Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Plymouth.  .  Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday (May 9, 2008) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave..  Memorials may be given to Laura B. Helm memorial fund.
 
Laura B. (Lokke Schotanus) Helm was born July 3, 1916 in Deinum, Frysland Netherlands to Jacob and Sietske (Steenstra) Schotanus.  She emigrated to the United States with her family in 1923.  They moved to the Eldora area and Laura attended schools in Hardin County.  She was married to Laurel Doc Helm on April 22, 1939 at the Little Brown Church and to this union three children were born.  Together they lived in the Plymouth area for most of their lives.  She enjoyed gardening and flowers, and also enjoyed the time she spent with family and friends.  She was a faithful member of the Plymouth United Methodist Church.   She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Mothers Club, and the UMW Circle. 
 
She was survived by her daughters, Brenda Thompson and husband Rick of Arvada, CO, Debi Latham and husband Dan of Mason City, and Lisa Koppin and husband Jim of Mason City; grandchildren, Andrew (Jen) and B.J. Thompson (Laura), Megan Latham Archer (Ryan), Jillian, and Mackenzie Latham, and Madison and Connor Koppin; brothers, Clyde Schotanus and wife Louise of St. Ansgar, and Jack Schotanus and wife Patsy of Grafton; sister-in-law, Marilyn Schotanus of St. Ansgar.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Laurel Doc Helm; and brother, Jerry Schotanus.

Friday 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
