Larry M. Morris

Larry M. Morris, 70, of Mason City, IA, died Sunday, April 13, 2014, at the Heritage Care Center. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM on Wednesday April 16, 2014, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Rev. Sid Bohls of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Tuesday April 15, 2014, at Major Erickson Funeral Home. Inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Larry Morris memorial fund in care of the family. Larry was born October 8, 1943, on a farm in Cerro Gordo County, IA, the son of Murl and Margaret Jean (Hutzell) Morris. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1962. Larry married Susanne Dahle on May 3, 1964, at the First United Methodist Church in Mason City. He worked for Mid-West Construction for 44 years before his retirement. He was a motivated, hard worker that mentored others in his craft. Larry enjoyed spending time with his family – especially with his grandchildren. He also was an avid fisherman, loved casino trips, gardening, class reunions, and socializing with others. Larry was the “Life of the Party” and enjoyed entertaining his guests. He was also a race fan who watched and attended stock car races at the North Iowa Fair Grounds, sprint car races in Knoxville, and of course NASCAR races. The most cherished parts of any race were the journeys and the friends made along the way. Larry is survived by his wife of almost 50 years: Susanne Morris of Mason City; 2 children: Jodi Eckhardt of Mason City and Mike (Deb) Morris of Mason City; 5 grandchildren: David (Shanon) Eckhardt and their children: Nick, J.D., and Nalani of Cedar Falls, IA, Jessica (Radshad) Eckhardt of Mason City, Alex Morris of Wake Forest, NC, Lindi (Ben) Nelson and their children: Thomas and Max of Des Moines, IA, and Robert (Bri) Clough of Hartford, CT; his mother: Jean Morris of Clear Lake, IA; siblings: Linda (Tom) Gaarder of Davenport, IA, Bonnie Stephens of Davenport, and Sharon (Richard) Davis of Mason City; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Nuehring of Mason City and Donnis (Bill) Hansen of Clarksburg, TN. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; his mother- in-law and father-in-law: Lloyd and Marie Dahle; and a son-in-law: Marty Eckhardt.
