Kim Brian McNamara, 58, of Mason City, IA, died Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Per his wishes, his body was cremated. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM on Friday, November 7, 2014, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Brian McNamara memorial fund in care of the family. Kim Brian McNamara was born April 27, 1956, in Mason City, the son of Robert Marius McNamara Sr. and Marcia (Elefson) Pietersen. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1974, and continued his education at Charleston University in Charleston, SC. He worked for the National Electrical Sign Association, which later became the International Sign Association in Alexandria, Virginia as Senior Vice President, and did private consulting after his retirement. Brian moved back to Mason City in 2003, where he eventually became co-owner of Borealis Coffee. Brian enjoyed cheering on the Twins, gardening, redecorating, traveling, antiques and restoration. He also enjoyed a nice cup of coffee, with a good book. He was a member of the Human Rights Commission in Mason City and President of his Home Owners Association. Brian is survived by his mother: Marcia Pietersen of Manly, IA; 1 brother: Larry McNamara and wife Linda of Mason City; 2 sisters: Vicki Knudtson and husband Gary of Kensett, IA and Ann Jones and husband Bob of Columbus Junction, IA; 2 step brothers: Robert and William Pietersen of Minnesota; 9 nieces and nephews: Elizabeth Thyer and husband Calvin of Osage, IA, Matt McNamara and wife Stephanie of Des Moines, IA, Kirby Knudtson and wife Dawn of Manly, IA, Heather Dingbaum and husband Matt of DeWitt, IA, Heidi Schafbuch and husband Nathan of Manly, IA, Sarah Millhouse and husband David of Northfield, MN, Mark Eakins of Columbus Junction, IA, Emily Eakins of Columbus Junction, IA and Tracey McNamara of Garner, IA; 17 great nieces and nephews: Paige, Teyannah, Raevyn and Khiya Knudtson, Dakota and Montana McNamara, Andrew and Alexa Thyer, Kadyn, Logyn, Jaxyn and Paityn Dingbaum, Michael and MaKenna McNamara, Joslyn Millhouse, Brody Eakins, and Jessa Schafbuch. He was preceded in death by his father; 1 brother: Robert Marius McNamara Jr.; nephew: Deon McNamara; maternal and paternal grandparents; his step-father: Francis Pietersen; and his beloved dog “Jake”.

Cemetery:
Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to the Brian McNamara memorial fund in care of the family.

There will be a gathering of family and friends from 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM on Friday, November 7, 2014, at Major Erickson Funeral Home.
