Kenneth Ronald Crotty, 68, of Mason City, died, Friday, July 8, 2011, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, following a courageous battle with lung cancer. Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM on Monday, July 18, 2011, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Pastor Scott A. Wilson of Clear Lake Christian Church officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Kenneth Crotty Memorial Fund in care of the family. Kenneth was born on Easter Sunday April 25, 1943, in Hampton, Iowa, the son of George and Viola (Mittelsteadt) Crotty. Following graduation from Mason City High School, Kenneth served in the U.S. Navy. For many years, Kenneth was an Ironworker. He enjoyed his work and was proud of the Local #67. Family was important to Kenneth, and he enjoyed spending time with his son, Brendt, his grandsons, George and Cody, and Brendts significant other, Dawn, who will all cherish the moments spent together before his untimely departure. They loved him very much. He loved to brag about his grandsons, and looked forward to watching Cody wrestle and play football. He also looked forward to taking George for malts. Cruising the north end, spending time with Smitty & friends at the car lot, and giving bones & playing with his granddog Sparky, were a few of his favorite things. Kenneth is survived by his children: Brendt Crotty (Dawn) of Mason City, Buffi Tjaden (Tom) of Waterloo, IA, Polly Butner (Darrell) of Clear Lake, IA, and Brad Westendorf of Mason City; his grandchildren: Cody, George, & Sparky, his first and very special granddaughter: Sarah Lee Kephart, Christa, Steph, Sam, Spence, Morgan, Taylor, Carter, and Carson; great grandchildren: Zoey, Caedan and Cameryn; siblings: Dorothy Wilson of Hampton, and Carl Crotty (Pat) of Charles City, IA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother: Robert (Elizabeth) Crotty; brother-in-law: Max Wilson; and special friends: Bart Froning, Gary, Oley, and Denny Smith.
