Kay Schumaker

February 25, 1959 — September 2, 2016

Kay Marie Schumaker, 57, of Mason City, died Friday, September 2, 2016 of natural causes at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at the First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Dan Carlson of Hanford Community Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City.

Kay was born February 25, 1959 the daughter of Raymond and Betty (Burd) Schumaker in Mason City, Iowa. She was one of eight children. Kay attended Mason City Public Schools ultimately earning her GED in 1982. Kay worked several jobs around North Iowa including a long stint at Wellborn Industries. Her final thirteen working years were spent as a member of the facilities department at North Iowa Area Community College, a place she cared deeply about.

Kay was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and Hanford Community Church. Kay’s strong Christian faith led her through many tough times in her life. Kay had a beautiful voice and over the years sang at numerous events including weddings, funerals, church, and some family functions. Kay loved to make people laugh and would always lighten up the atmosphere of any gathering. She was a huge Elvis fan, enjoyed collecting M&M memorabilia, and reading biographies. Kay had a passionate heart for her family; she was an awesome aunt, a special sister, and a great friend. Known as Auntie Kay, her nieces and nephews always had her greatest love.

Those thankful for having shared in Kay’s life include her siblings; Bruce (Shelly) Schumaker, Jeffery (Pam) Schumaker, Robert Schumaker, Sandra (Mike) Servantez, Roger (Brenda) Schumaker, Tony Schumaker, and Terry Schumaker. She is also survived by a special family friend, Sherri Olson and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nephews.

Ms. Schumaker was preceded in death by her parents, a nephew, Scott Schumaker, and a sister in-law, Ruth Schumaker.
