Junior ?Bud? Menke, 79, of 15 Farmstead Square, died Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at home. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 ? 4th St. SE with Pastor Paul Nelson and Rev. Kenneth Gehling, chaplain, Mercy Medical Center North Iowa officiating. Inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 PM Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue at the church one hour before the service. Memorials may be given to the Junior ?Bud? Menke Memorial Fund. Bud was born July 4, 1926 in Mason City the son of Lambert and Ruth (Meinders) Menke. Bud served in the US Navy as a seaman 1st class during WW II, then returned to graduate from Mason City High School in 1948 and attend Junior College. Bud and Phyllis Simeon were married September 26 1952 and welcomed children, Lizabeth Ruth, Timothy Michael, Jodie Marie, Gregory Scott, and William Kirk. Phyllis died October 5, 1975. Bud later met and married Marcia K. Dlouhy August 26, 1978 and welcomed her son, James Daniel. Bud served his Electricial apprenticeship and went on to work as a Journeyman Wireman for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers #228 for 40 years. He retired in 1989. Following retirement, Bud worked for the city of Mason City as a school crossing guard and for Mercy Medical Center- North Iowa as a Security Guard. He was a volunteer at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa and belonged to the Mercy Auxiliary. Bud was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and St. James Lutheran Church, Mended Hearts Chapter #222, and I.B.E.W. #228. Bud enjoyed camping, cooking, building his family?s homes, gardening, golf and other sports. He helped start the Little League baseball program in Mason City. Bud also enjoyed woodworking and gardening. Bud liked to do machine embroidery, quilting, and feeding wild birds. Bud is survived by his wife, Marcia K. Menke of Mason City; children, Lizabeth (Tom) Peterson of Tucson, Arizona, Timothy Menke of Los Angeles, California, Jodie Kush (Fiancé Joel Hoover) of Tucson, Arizona, Gregory (Laura) Menke of Tucson, Arizona; step-son, James (Denise) Dlouhy of Mason City; 2 grandchildren, Meghan Menke and Alex Dlouhy; sisters, Adeline Perry of Sedona, Arizona, Avis Miller of Elm Grove, Wisconsin, Phyllis Wright of Mason City; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald (Marilyn) Owen of Bettendorf, Iowa, Douglas (Audrey) Owen of Clinton, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and other family members. Bud was preceded in death by his parents, 1st wife and their infant son, William Kirk.
