Joni Smith

April 21, 1928 — January 4, 2011

Joni Smith, a daughter of Cecil and Bessie (Cerny) Armstrong, was born at Clarion, Iowa, April 21st, in the year of our Lord 1928, and at the age of 82, passed on with Tuesdays sunset at the Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa, at Mason City, Iowa, January 4th, in the year of our Lord 2011. Following a few weeks of suffering from a fractured pelvis, her departure was untimely and unexpected. At age seven, in a tent meeting on the north lawn of the Free Methodist Church, 808 Broad St., Plymouth, Iowa, she was converted and she left the testimony that she had surrendered her life to the Lord, and was resigned to His will in the year of our Lord 1935. She was reared to young Christian womanhood at Plymouth, attended school there, worked faithfully for all that employed her, one of the first being Peshak Grocery. She was the editor of the high school newspaper, third in her class, and graduated in the year of our Lord 1946. She enjoyed 48 years with a good God fearin man named Leo Warner, and cherished her last six years happily united with Kevin Smith. Joni enjoyed singing spiritual songs, reading the Bible, planting flowers, cooking, calligraphy, and watching the cardinals out her kitchen picture window, she called it her entertainment center. Thats where she loved watching Gods creation renew itself in the springtime. She will be remembered for her very kind and willing heart. She will be very deeply missed by family and friends alike. To know Joni was to know LOVE. She leaves to mourn her departure, her loving husband, Kevin Smith. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Fran Armstrong; nephew, James D. Armstrong, both of Alamogordo, New Mexico; niece, Deborah Muldavin of Albuquerque, New Mexico; nephew Michael Armstrong of Florida; aunt, Marguerite Armstrong of Lubbock, Texas; 4 grandnieces; 1 grandnephew; and many personal friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Paul F. Faltisek; brother, James D. Armstrong; and a husband from her previous marriage, Leo R. Warner. A private family burial was held at Oakwood Cemetery on Thursday, January 6th, in the year of our Lord 2011. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 10th, in the year of our Lord 2011, at Plymouth Bible Baptist Church, 808 Broad St., Plymouth, IA, with Pastor Paul Schaefer and Pastor Glen Bandel officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Joni Smith Memorial Fund in care of the family.
