John L. Quam

Rev. John L. Quam, 81, of 2009 S. Madison, died Friday (September 17, 2004) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Rev. James L. Magelssen officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church. Memorials may be given to World Mission Prayer League or Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Quam was born October 30, 1922 in Minneapolis, MN the son of Sig and Marie (Ringdahl) Quam. He graduated from Augsburg College and Luther Seminary. Rev. Quam served in the US Navy during WW II. He married Marjorie Kleven December 28, 1945 in Minneapolis. Rev. Quam served 35 years as a pastor in parishes including Vienna, SD, Newman Grove, NE, Tanga Tanzania, rural Osage, Muscatine, Brandon, MN and Morgan, MN. He also had served as chaplain at Good Shepherd Health Center, Mason City. He retired in 1985 and moved to Mason City. Rev. Quam was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie L. Quam of Mason City; son, Steven Quam and wife Lois of Richfield, MN; daughters, Virginia Zimmerman of Mason City, Susan Purnell of Honolulu, HI; sister, Virginia Klein of Minneapolis, MN; granddaughter, Hadley Quam; grandsons, David Quam, Aaron Anderson and wife Paula, Jonathan Anderson; great granddaughter, Penelope Anderson. Rev. Quam?s parents and brother, Richard preceded him in death.
