John Douglas Gillard

John Douglas Gillard, 72, of Mason City, IA, died Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center after being diagnosed with lung cancer on July 11th, 2016. Upon his wishes he was cremated and there will be no formal service. Memorials may be directed to the John D. Gillard Memorial fund in care of the family, 389 Willowbrook Dr, Mason City, IA 50401.

John was born November 29, 1943, in Mason City, IA, the son of Douglas John and Iris (Nevill) Gillard. He graduated from Mason City High School in the class of 1962.

On June 14, 1964 John was united in marriage to DeAnne Dillabough at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City, Iowa. To this union two children were born.

John began working for Alexander Distributing and he later opened his own distributing business, Douglas Sales. In the early 1980's John and DeAnne became interested in antiques and opened their first shop in 1985.

Those thankful for having shared in John’s life include his wife of 52 years, DeAnne, children, Heather (Mark) Black, Doug Gillard, two granddaughters, Alexis Mariner and Dakota Tarr.

John was preceded in death by his parents and two special furbabies, TeddyBear and SugarBear.
