MASON CITY: John C. Wood, age 65, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, April 18, 2015 with a visitation One hour prior to services at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Father Kenneth Gehling will officiate the services Following the services a time for food and fellowship will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall from 3:30pm until 5:30pm. John was born May 12, 1949 in Vinton, Iowa to Leo and Mary (Sherbon) Wood. He grew up in Center Point in his younger years and moved to Mason City where he attended Newman High School and graduated from NIACC, where he received a degree in construction technology. On Oct. 5, 1968, John married Ann (Groh) Wood at the Holy Family Church and the First Christian Church in Mason City. They were blessed with one son Matthew Wood. John enjoyed his work remodeling homes and making furniture. His family moved to California where he worked as maintenance supervisor on large apartment communities in Southern California for about 15 years. He returned to Mason City to be with family in 2010 until his passing. John loved fishing, car races, mushroom hunting, and playing cards and games with family at his parent’s home. He had a great sense of humor and especially enjoyed children. He enjoyed his travels to Hawaii and his cruise to the Caribbean. He is survived by Ann Wood, Son Matthew Wood, Parents Leo and Mary Wood, Sisters Wanda Kunzman, Rose Munson, Jeanne Hefty, Diane McCombs, and Anna Wood; Brothers Stephen Wood, Alan Wood, Tom Wood, David Wood, Frank Wood, Dale Wood, Paul Wood, Charlie Wood and their families. He is preceded in death by his two brothers Leo Wood Jr. and Dean Wood. Because of his love for children, the family asks that memorials be sent to Camp Courageous, PO Box 118, Monticello, Iowa 52310, Attn John Wood Memorial.
